Seriously...you're a student...no credit history and you want to buy travel accomodations for 3 people? You obviously don't have an understanding of credit. Credit worthiness is key...and you haven't proven that to them.

Like I stated earlier, be thankful you have an AMEX and if you need something "better," get a Secured Visa card where you put down $2,500 as security and they give you a credit line of $5,000 or more. Be cautious and only get a card like this from a reputable bank like Bank of America, Wachovia, etc.

no credit history is an understatement. i have had a visa card for 4 years (since i turned 18) and my other amex for 2.

eitherway, they allowed my scheduled travel expenses after the message

No credit history is an understatement?

Ok...was it necessary to quote me twice?

[QUOTE=JettaGT,Jul 23 2008, 10:33 AM] long story short...2 years ago when i was a sophomore in college, i got the blue for students from american express. recently, i needed to make a purchase 500 above my credit limit. they would not budge saying because it was a student card, they could only raise my credit limit after 5 years. while this was a credit card, i still paid the balance in full every month, as one would with a charge card. anyway, i ended up getting a regular amex card..the charge kind..and the lady said i had no preset spending limit...story as follows after the card was denied trying to buy two computers...i sent them this letter...like i expect anything in return...

Greetings. I recently wrote in concerning the inability to increase my line of credit on my blue for student credit card. Despite my record of complete on-time payments, I can understand that the policy could not be altered, especially for a student such as myself who probably does not make American Express enough money to even warrant providing me online services

I've had miserable experience with AMEX. I will not do business with them again. I saw a steady decline is customer service with arbitrary credit policy that could be neither explained nor defined.

AMEX rocks and I love my amex card. You just need credit history. I needed 5k extra room so I called and 10 minutes later my limit went from 10k to 15k.

Other times they have really come through for me.

I love my AMEX.

I can't stand Amex. Hard to get a card? I think not. They keep sending me applications and I have returned all their crap in the return envelope at least 10 times telling them to take me off their list, to no avail.
And their investment unit has the worst monthly statements and 1099s in the industry, and I see dozens.

you use amex for travel? if it's because of their ad campaign a while back about amex being accepted everywhere around the world, rest assured that visa and mastercard are as well. also, amex isn't accepted at many places in the US even, because their usage fee (for retailers/restaurants/etc) is higher than the others.

Later in life you'll be turning down their Platinum or Black cards. Geez they want a high annual fee to make my wallet look chic!
