I have one of those in my backyard as well. Have not seen it lately though from the recent rains. It does spin one hell of a web though. The very fine web line that zig and zag was about an inch and a half wide. Do you even know what it is called and whether it is dangerous to handle? I had a different kind awhile back floating on a leaf in my pool. It was butt ugly. The body was big, furry and bumpy. I fished that sucker out and dumped it in deeper part of my backyard.

Can't believe all the crap that ends up in my skimmer basket besides spiders.

i love spiders. fascinating critters.

 

When I was a kid we'd often get those setting up webs near the house. The neighborhood kids and I always were fascinated with what happened when we caught some insect and tossed it into the webs... Those things can move fast!

 

Yep. Its amazing to see them perfectly still for hours or even days and then, all of a sudden, they pounce on their prey.

They're harmless to humans and fascinating to watch.

 

Good Lord!! I actually jumped!!

I freaking hate spiders soooo much..I'd have a can of aresol and a lighter at that thing pretty damn quick, assuming I could muster the nerve.

My only real fear.
