This shot gives you a better idea of her size. She's a Writing Spider and her web is almost 6 feet tall and over 4 feet wide.
The male is much smaller, only about 1/4 the size. He has a much more humble crib and if you look closely, you can see him in front of the white Coi.
The egg sack is suspended in webbing and is home to between 400 and 1400 critters! Not all are spiders. Other insects lay eggs in the spider's egg sack.
She's been by our back porch for over a month now. Its been fun watching her catch bugs and rebuild her nest. This is such a beautiful creature!
Oh yea, I haven't seen the male is a couple of weeks. Fish food I guess.
Spiders are fascinating creatures and she is a beaut. I like to keep some down in the basement to keep the insect population down. Afterall, they are good.
