my sis just got me a bird.. how do I care for it????
kinda looks like this...
it's in this small cage for now.. I'm gonna go to the pet store to get it a bigger cage and food.
what else do I need to get..
how do I keep it from trying to bite me (bit me once already!) and screaming?!?
anyways, this is my first pet and I love this thing!
...and what should I name it?

When it bites you, let it hang off of that finger; lifting the beak is like lifting a fingernail on us. Hanging body weight off of a fingernail hurts; so does hanging from a beak!
Screaming: Water guns are perfect unless your bird likes baths!
Bathing: Once a week, get a spray bottle and mist your bird down. This is how they bathe. I shouldn't have to say this, but plain water in the mister, no soap!
Bedtime: Cover the cage every night. Uncover every morning. Makes them sleep and keeps the drafts off.
Speaking of drafts: don't keep your house cold or your bird will get sick. Cockatiels are tropical birds and naturally suited to tropical temps, so your air conditioning is an enemy! Keep your bird's cage out of drafty areas and away from vents, too.
Birds get bored. They will scream when they want attention or are bored, so get lots of toys, especially ones like ropes that they can hang from and try to tear up. Mirrors are fun too!
Put him/her on the shower bar while you take a shower! They love the humidity!
Hope that helps...

i've had a cockatiel and 3 parotletts, and i found out birds are really good pets. they get really attached to you and like to sleep on your shoulder or on your head.
try to keep the cage clean and keep fresh drinking water in there all the time. don't use tap water. try to feed it fresh fruits, like pears, apples, peaches. they like dat stuff. plus it tames them when you hand feed. they like to eat like seeds, honey bars, millets.
as far as biting goes. just blow on the bird when it tries to bite you...they just hate that, and you won't hurt them.
when you leave or come home that bird is gonna scream for ya...it's the funniest thing man...lol
