Default My trip to China

While I was in China, I wrote my friends an email the second day I was there. I have included the email in this post, but note that it was only my second day or so, so many of my perceptions changed. This will just give you an idea of how things are. But I must say that there are many beautiful women in China, but have adapted the stuck up American way of living. Note that in this email, I was studying at Tianjin University of Finance and Economics (Chinese is Tianjin Cai Jing Xue Yuan). I was staying at the international student center, so there are used to foreigners. But after three weeks of staying there, I went to Xian and Beijing. You must visit the Great Wall and the Summer Palace one day. I stayed in China for one month, practicing my Mandarin (which is still horrible) and experiencing things many people have never. All I can say now is that Chinese people are incredible! By the way, I am Vietnamese, though it doesn't really matter.

Hey foo, I'm currently at the university's library. It's approximately 4:30
pm right now. I'm having a decent time so far, but we just got here
yesterday. I have countless opportunities to speak Chinese now, but am
hesitant at times because it is much different than in America. In the US,
I can try to speak Chinese to a person, and in most cases, I will stumble
upon words I am unfamiliar with. But they will always explain to me what
something means. Not here in China. It's either I understand, or face utter
humiliation. It's all good though. I am ready to embrace anything. It's
very different over here. The cars are also on the left-hand side, but their
driving is insane. There are people everywhere outside in the middle of the
streets on bicycles, and a few people walking. I can begin to speak about
the weather right now, but I usually express the extent of something at its
best when I am exposed to that situation. I am next to the air conditioner
right now, so I can't begin to explain how the weather feels outside. Let's
just say it's rather hot and humid. I also awoke this morning to discover
that I have four mosquito bites on my right arm. It's all good though. I
smashed that bitch and put it down the drain and flushed it down along with
my blood. I am staying in a two bedroom dorm room right now. One room has
one bed, and the other has two. I am staying in the two bed room because it
has the restroom. My roommate is a really cool Japanese guy, and the guy in
the other room is a Hispanic dude. The people in my group have outgoing
personalities, which improves the environment I am in. They feed us quite a
bit over here. The cafeteria of our dorm is actually a restaurant, so it's
pretty cool. I must say that traditional Chinese food isn't American in
fluenced dishes such as Kung Pao Chicken or Beef and Broccoli. They feed us
too much and we never finish. They also try to put some American-style
cooking into their dishes to try and accomodate us at times. One example
would be fried chicken strips with Ketchup over them. Anyway, with the
amount of money I spend buying one glass of beer over in the US, I could buy
two six packs of Corona, an extra large package of toilet paper, and a
sixteen or something pack of 20 something ounce bottled water. That just
proves to show how incredibly cheap everything is over here. I am not having
any symptoms of home sickness right now because I haven't been gone for too
long. Actually, I left the US yesterday. In China, the time is 15 hours
ahead of you. So since it is about 4:45 pm right now, it is 1:45 am where
you are. I woke up at 5 something this morning, something extremely
untypical of my disposition in the US. Okay, I have been looking for badass
cars over here. I figured that since China is close to Japan, and that Hong
Kong has bad ass cars, at least other major cities in China would have some.
I have not seen any badass cars at all. The best car I've seen is probably
an Audi S4 or something. The Accords over here are just like in the US,
except with badass Japan-spec headlights and taillights. Driving is so
hectic over here. People walk so close to cars and honking is so normal
here. Unlike the US, the middle figure always follows a honk. Even though I
haven't been here for too long, I have been able to observe many things. But
have I learned anything yet? Probably not. Hehe. Another thing that I was
kind of expecting is beautiful ladies. I will not comment on that right now
because I've only seen parts of Tianjin, not everything. I arrived in
Beijing yesterday, the capital of China. From there, we took a treacherous
bus route down to Tianjin. To comment on my 12+ hour plane trip, I was able
to exercise the capacity of my bladder. I decided to have a few beers, which
were free by the way. Eventually, the forbidden seal began to tear way, and
was forced to head towards the restroom. The line wasn't too long, but I
guess since it was after we had lunch, people were taking huge shits. So I
stood there, about to reilliterate what happened to me in a Savons a long
time ago. In case you're wondering, I didn't make it to the restroom at
Savons and pissed all over myself. Anyway, it didn't occur here, and I
experienced a wonderful sensation releasing myself in the planes puny
lavatory. I didn't mean to go into detail on that, it's just that it was
quite painful. Sitting there on the plane seat wasn't very favorable either.
They could have at least played some Jet Li or Jackie Chan movies or
something. But they played German and French movies that was dubbed in
Chinese and subtitled in English. ... WHY????? Anyway, I couldn't sleep too
much on the plane, and time went by very slowly. But it's over now and I am
here. This damn language is very difficult. And the peoples' accents all
vary, so it is another barrier for me. But I will try my best. I can tell
you what this experience will bring to me. I will be subject to
embarrassment and humiliation, mosquitos making feasts of me, the scorching
sun roasting my flesh, the 100000000 percent sweat accumulation on my body,
the yearning to have a 25 ounce prime rib beckoning and beckoning, and the
gain of invaluable knowledge. Will I learn anythng from this trip, probably
not? Maybe just a little? I won't know now will I, that is until I do it
and it's done.
