That's pretty cool, and for a "donation" of 520 bucks his costs seem fairly reasonable.
I'm kind of shocked that he got that much funding, the site itself is actually cooler than the CNC..
He does say however "The power to go from on-screen design to precision-machined product in a few mouse clicks is very exciting."
It might be exciting, but it's complete bullshit as well. If anyone thinks they can just grab a picture and say print and the machine will do the rest is way off base.
Assume you have/bought or built the CNC
you have to:
Learn CAD software
Learn CAM Software
Learn how to create G-Code
Learn to set up the machine to match the CAM software
Figure out why it didn't do what you thought it was going to do
then learn G-Code since it's the only real way you can make the machine your bitch.
Believe me they are wicked fun. After the hard work is done, I hit the GO button on the computer and I just sit and watch my CNC create something out of nothing, all while I'm smoking and shooting the shit.
It moves like it's alive sometimes.. but it's not, it only does what you tell it to, and if the code says go down 3" and then go left, you've got a serious issue on your hands.
Malmberg? I already have one, I stole it from the guy from ABBA!
Like I said, I was tired of buying guitars, it's not a question of money, If I can do something myself I will. Why pay someone to build a guitar for me, when I can build my own..exactly the way I want it.
It might not be the best guitar in the world, but it is for me. I have never had one that played and sounded as good.
