i always offer food. when i get turned down i walk away. out of all the times i've been harassed, one guy actually did take me up.. i bought him some groceries
same thing. However, most beggars usually accept food.

the people who don't are those who have the sign "will work for food". Both times I offered they just said, can't I just have the money instead.

That was my first thought as well.

I"m a good samaritan all the time, don't worry. I just don't like scammers or beggars.
Huge difference between scammers and beggars.

on a side note, when I get someone asking me at a corner for some change or something, I usually tell them something along the lines of "at least you're broke, I'm in debt"

I've got a friend who does the following: as soon as he sees someone coming up and figures they're going to ask for money, he says, "Hey, buddy, can you spare some change?" It always works.

I had a guy drive up to me and say he was from out of town and just watched his dad die in the hospital and was out of gas money to get home (like 4 hour drive to home) so I gave him like 2-3 bucks to get him to leave me alone even though i knew it was a scam.

Three weeks later the same exact guy comes to me with the same word for word story, I told him that it would be alright since apparently his dad apparently had a habit of coming back to life. He made up some excuse of how the few weeks prior he only thought that he had died but he really pulled through, but now he really was dead. People are ridiculous.

That is genius. I love it.

I worked at a daycare in college. Louisiana subsidizes childcare for low-income families. I remember hearing a woman say, "Alright, let me go and see if the state will pay for my kids to come to daycare" as she got into her G35 Coupe. This was years ago, when it was still a fresh car.

I've done that before, and also made myself be the sketchiest dude walking around, cause even crazy people don't wanna deal with crazier people.

I use that to my advantage too usually. My finantial advisor and friend told me to look like I have nothing so I have nothing to take. When my wife yells at me for looking like crap, I say, "but Anthony said."

Unfortunately that night we went to dinner and a show so I had to be at least a little dressed up.
