I would have to nominate my GF in this one. I am also coming into a large sum of cash due to a lawsuit and I offered to pay her car off (as well as purchasing an S2k, an evo, and maybe an NSX for myself). Well, she knew that I wanted a new bike (deciding between a new sportbike or building a new chopper) and she said instead of paying off her car that I should take the cash and buy both bikes. I told her I could still pay her car off and she said "Why?!?!?, I have a job, I can take care of it, buy yourself something nice." Beautiful girl, money is not an issue with her, usually insists on paying her own way when we go out, always doing nice things for me, (she is a massage therapist so I get backrubs every day, she is always making dinner for me, refuses to let me help out around the house, and if I show an interest in something even in passing I usually have it as a gift the next day). Now that is a nice change of pace coming from a situation where I was so broke I could barely pay rent and my now ex-wife spent $700 on a Prada bag to carry her $19 bowling shoes. Yea, she is the greatest, definitely a keeper.

How about just get a new house and save the rest for a rainy day? 300k is not a small sum but it sure isn't big enough for retirement...

We are going to stash some of it, but my wife is working on her doctorate in psychology. So after she is finished we shouldn't have any money worries. I hope That is after we pay off her student loans.
