Default NAPSTER sucks...!

Someone... please forward this or write your own similar responses on any other various forum you can find!

I've never been so pissed with a product or company in my life! I saw the commercial for Napster noting that you could download an infinite amount of songs for $9.99 a month...

2 words:

BULL SHIT

First of all... their equipment is ONLY compatable with FIFTY devices. There are THOUSANDS out there... and they are compatible with 50!!?? I have a Nike mp3 player for exercising and I have a DVD/CD player/changer that is mp3 compatible as well as a stereo in my car that recognizes .mp3's... All of these- with Napster... absoingly useless!

Napster downloads everything in a "window's Media Player" (.wma) format. WMA is ONLY compatible with the 50 devices they list. If you have something that only works with .mp3 then you A.) Can't purchase Napster To Go and have to get the "full version" for $14.99 a month... and B.) you have to pay .99 cents for ing EVERY song just like any other run of the mill download site out there.

To make matters worse... now that you've downloaded this bs... downloaded about 20 songs which you THOUGHT were free (b/c they tease you like a virgin wearing a garder at prom with "free" songs- only the most poplular ones cost $.99... all the other's were supposed to be "Free"... making the $14.95 a month worth it.)... you go to burn them to a CD which is your only ing choice (unless you want to carry your Desktop everywhere with you like a complete douche bag).... and a warning box pops up requesting another $.99 for EACH of the "free" songs before it will let you burn them!!??

WTF??

So I eat a big Rhino cock on this and agree to "pay" for the songs. I get them onto a CD and get an email from them saying that you "can burn the songs to CD and then RIP them back to your computer in .mp3 format for use with other devices"... so I give it a whirl and stick it back in...

well... after my computer froze and about crashed like Sunny Bono 3 times... I finally gave up.

End result... I spent about $60 bucks for 2 CD's... that's it.

Their customer service tells me when I ask for a refund "Did you read the 'Terms and Agreement'...?" I say "yeah"... well in there it states that we use .wma instead of .mp3... so how can you hold me accountable for something YOU should have read...?"

itunes, then you're stuck with only being able to use your stuff on Apple products. DRM sucks any way you cut it. Both Itunes and Napster suck in that regard.

Yeah, all the "legal" dl services suck because of DRM of one sort or another, but thats nothing compared to the restrictions they have on burning and putting songs on players. Granted, these services have to do something or the record companies won't let them sell songs at all, but some of these restrictions are ridiculous. With Napster you get 50 players, with other Windows services, you get more or less, but they all only play wma drm files, and there is a lot of bait and switch with songs you can dl but not burn, or buy but not put on a player, etc.

iTunes only has one player, the iPod, and its drm is a version of AAC - but the redeeming values of the Apple service are that AAC is actually an open format that any service or player could support, that you actually own the songs, and that you can burn them as many times as you like or put them on any iPod. No bait and switch.

There are some Windows services similar to Apple's, but iTunes is the best service I've experienced yet - everything is standardized, and there are no surprises. imo, just surrender to Napster, get an iPod, use iTunes, and you'll be happier.

iTunes recognizes both .mp3 and AAC.

AAC may be an open standard, but Apple's DRM they use is NOT open and no way they would allow another company to make players that play songs purchased from the itunes music store. The fact that the underlying music file is open doesn't mean crap when you wrap it up in a proprietary DRM.

Yes, all the services recognize mp3, the original popular open format, except Sony's service. Sony is probably the absolute worst service out there, worse than Napster, because Sony has a big thing about making all its stuff proprietary. ATRAC, iLnk, Memory Stick, etc...

[Apple's] drm is a version of AAC
Apple does indeed not allow other companies to use its AAC, but AAC is fundamentally open, like mp3 - its sometimes called mp4. Apple's logic is one company, one software, one hardware, equals higher quality products, and in action, it works. No driver issues, no hardware incompatibilities, and high-quality products that just work.

Dude,
just use winamp to convert to mp3--its free. wma files sizes are small, thus taking up less space. I agree that its gay that it does automatically come in mp3 format, but it takes no time to convert w/ winamp.

key points!!

So essentially... so these downloading companies can make the record companies happy... WE have to suffer!??

Of course... I would never expect the burden to be placed upon them... just like proper delagation to take out the trash at a major corporation... you better believe that nasty ass job will trickle all the way down to some poor schlum who doesn't deserve it... but doesn't have a choice!!

So basically... I need to swap out the audio system in my S4, and spend about $600 to have a system that plays .wma, sell my Nike .mp3 player and purchase a Ipod (or one of Napster's '50' choices...) for ANOTHER $500, and then finally... get rid of my CD/DVD changer at home that plays .mp3's... and drop another $800 on a player that does...

So... I'm SAVING wonderful amounts of money to listen to my songs whenever I want... right?
