Like an in car system or handheld?

I don't have navi, but I hear the Alpine AVIC systems are really good for an in car system.

I'd go handheld so you can use it in the car or take it with you. I've used a couple, but only informally - its on my list of things to get, but I haven't looked hard a them yet.

Garmin Nuvi series is good for portable nav. I recommend getting one that reads out the street names (text to speech with street names).

If you have a data plan on your cell phone you can also try Telenav if your phone has a GPS chip.

I like the Garmin Nuvi. I cheaped out though when buying mine and got a Magellan, which I don't like at all.

I'd go as cheap as possible and portable, like the Nuvi series. I picked a C550 because it had the features I wanted and the price was so low it won't make my world end if it gets stolen or broken. Works great.

I stuck mine on a Modifry dash bracket and I could upgrade it easily to some new wonder-box down the road.

Get a Garmin. I get them in my rentals all the time. Great GPS.

I had a TomTom and while the nav maps were good, the volume was inadequate at highway speeds in a Suby Forester.
