near death experience
This is a story not about me, but about my father that i would like to share. He was in the Israeli army during the yom kippur war. He was head of 12 soldiers. They were running down a street when all of a suddenly a huge gun fight started. My father immedietly told his whole "squad" to cover, and fire back. 20 minutes later the 4 guys shooting at them were dead, and everyone in my dads squad was fine, except for my dad, he was shot once in the stomach, and once in the leg.
The shot in the leg wasnt so bad, but the one in the stomach was pretty bad, he even started to spit up blood. Well to make a long story short, him and his squad were waiting for a helicopter to arrive to take my dad to a hospital. My dad thought that he was going to die, and so did the medic in his squad. Well, 5 minutes before the helicopter arrived, a grenade was thrown into the group, my father (thinking that he was going to die anyways) covered the grenade with his body, killing himself, and saving 12 young soliders.
That was the story that i wanted to share, i hope you all relize how brave my father was.

If anyone else would like to share anything else, please do.

My dad, God rest his soul, was a 25 year LAPD -- a real cop's cop, commander of the Watts substation when the 65 riots broke out. A crazy man in a park with a shotgun was holding several cops at bay. My dad, plainclothes, was the only unit in the area with a shotgun. My dad and this guy were pointing their shotguns at . eachg other, point blank range. My dad said "Drop your gun or you're dead." The guy fired on my dad, blew his hat off, but didn't hit him. My dad didn't fire, but said "You're dead" and the guy dropped his gun.
if i may know why didnt he fire?
your dad was a brave man!
just a reminder, like i said no problem with the people that dont want to share their experience. Thanks to all that have shared their story with us. THANKS!!!!

I don't think this was near death for me, but it could have been fatal. I was driving on a nice Sunday with my top down. Through the mountain roads, I am capable of taking the turns easily. Then I came to a normal road. There was a turn that should have been taken at 15 mph. Our cars can easily handle that turn, however, there was some loose gravel and a small dip. I think that one of my tires hit it while going 35 and that caused the S to lose control. I managed to dodge the cars nearby, but went off to the side. There was a barb wire gate there and it scratched up the front of the car. The car spun out in the dirt and I thought that I really messed up my car. Before I realized it, my face was covered with blood. I went out of my car and there was an off duty medic there. He said that I would require 30 stitches. The barb wire came down into the cockpit of the car and gashed my head while I ran through the wire. Be careful when driving with your top down. I was wearing shades so my eyes could have been protected, but the wire never hit my shades. The injury occurred right above my right brow. Half a foot lower and that would have been my neck. My wound is still healing, my car is fixed, and I didn't hit anybody. Be careful when driving your cars because I have witnessed a few tragedies. I have toned down a little since then.

Cedric, you're absolutely correct. And, yes, he did promptly handcuff the guy. My dad, who will always be my hero, retired after 25 years on the LAPD proud as hell that he never once fired his weapon in anger.
