I NOW NEED ADVICE!!!

Because of some links from THIS FORUM, I've downloaded some bad wares, not sure if they are adwares or virus, but my desktop is froze and I could not click on any item. However, I can only use the Start menu to run programs. I'm running a few adware softwares to find the source, but not very sure they could find. I searched for the latest files downloaded and found some suspicious looking ones, but not sure about deleting them, which may result in total OS shutdown.

PLEASE HELP WITH ANY ADVICE! THANKS!

Mungo,

Try runnin' the AAW and spybot again. Or download spy-sweeper . . . another good utility. Then after they do their job ensure you reboot your computer! This will reset the registry.

Those should do it. If not . . . you may be using something else that enables this. For example Kazaa enables some crazy stuff on your computer. And, if you disable it, Kazaa no longer works (if you are using the free version that is not kazaa lite).

Hope you get it figured out.

Thanks Koala, I'm d/l the anti virus and the adaware programs. My virus scanner expired last week. Out of nowhere I get these popups all the time and I just have to close them. When I went to music site one day suddenly it had d/l all these programs without me knowing it. I fixed most of the probs but hopefully this will help more. Can't people do better stuff in their spare time instead of making these damn popups or viruses.

After spyware and adaware have scanned your computer, quit using internet explorer. Spybot and Adaware can remove a lot but often do not remove everything. Download mozilla firefox - it is a much cleaner web browser.

Firefox was my next recommendation. I'm just trying not to overwhelm anyone here with a bunch of changes in how they operate a computer
