get spybot and spywareblaster.

Mungo,

You might also try looking in your Registry and manually changing the Start Page. Go to Start | Run... and enter "regedit". Then, navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Microsoft | Internet Explorer | Main | Start Page

Manually change the value of Start Page to whatever you want your default page to be, and see if it sticks.

You might also do the same key under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch of the Registry:

HKEy_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Microsoft | Internet Explorer | Main | Start Page

OR

you can do a system restore to a previous day when everything was working fine. (only if you have winXP with system restore enabled)

Doing this tonight.. I tried downloading a free version of adaware a couple of days ago but it was "scan only".

I have to get rid of 175 spyware items that are on my comp right now!

Thanks guys.

Wow! Thanks everyone. I've used all your advice so hopefully the problem won't appear again.

The funny thing is that I'm unable to go to Add/remove programs from my Control Panel...it just won't open.

Regardless- I don't know what I'd do without the members here @ s2ki.com. You guys rock!

Should I get firefox alone or is it worth getting the whole package, mozilla 1.7?
