Default Need Advise - Can not stop charges to a credit card that is closed !!!!

Is this really the way credit card companies work ?

A year ago I gave a credit card number for a financial service. They bill me every month.
Three months ago I close the credit card and pay off the balance.
Now I check and I am billed another 3 months for this service on my closed account.
I called Citicorp today and talked to 3 supervisors.
Bottom line is If the service does not stop charging they will do nothing about it.

I realize I should take this up with the service but I simply can not believe they have a right to debit a closed account????

I will be talking to a lawyer tomorrow.

Stop subscribing to internet porn sites. They aren't the most reputable businesses.

Seriously, they won't let you dispute the charges? That seems odd.

I tried the stolen card bit but that didn't work.

Talked to a lawyer today. She says they can not do this and she will send a certified letter.

PS>

The service is "Prepaid Legal advice"

They are the ones going to send the letter to Citicorp...Oh the irony!

credit cards that are inactive CANNOT be legally billed for anything. The issuing bank screwed up royally by authorizing the charges.

Good luck fighting this, CC companies and their associated banks right up there with insurance companies in terms of evilness.

Why didn't you transfer the recurring charges to an open account?

If the account is closed why are you getting statements? Just send the statements back to the bank witth a note that the account was closed and you are not responsible for any charges on it. If you can prove you closed it, they cannot legally bill you.

Morris,

That is what I thought...That is why I am pursuing this. But I can definetly say one thing, the three supervisors I argued with at Citicorp are all on the other side of this. Worse yet I had a similiar situation 2 years ago. I ignored them and they opened up a new account charged it let it triple in late fees and then dinged my credit report. Once that has happened you have another big business to start battling with.
