go to download.com

get spybot and ad-aware.

install both. then in each one, have it search for the latest software updates. then run the system scan and have them remove any found spyware from your system. no guarantees that it solves your problem though.

Ok just did spybot, but another problem now. My desktop background has a giant link on it. It another ad for my downloads for spyware. My normal background is still behind it, but I cant see it or close the giant link. My whole screen is black with the ad words in the middle. I can still see the short cut icons though. how do I get rid of it?

Every site you or somebody or even something, like spyware, opened in your browser, with all images, and all downloaded and maybe later removed movies or mp3 songs - ARE STILL THERE and could broke your life!

go to the store and get yourself a software. Sure, it will cost $$ but even with the 'free' download you're still gonna get more unwanted shit in your system. There's no such thing as free in America

I *think* something might've hijacked your Active Desktop settings

try this:

go to Control Panel--> Display--> Customize Desktop--> Web tab. In the list, there might be a link there other than My Current Home Page. Delete that.

otherwise, I'm not sure.

Ad-Aware and SpyBot are the two best programs. Make sure you update them as well once you download them. The newest version of Ad-Aware is Ad-Aware SE Personal. There is a link on the home screen of the program that says "Check for updates now". You want to click that to update it.

If this link is in your background, then it will be your active desktop that is the problem. You could also have a virus or worm that is causing that, but that is the less likely scenario. What antivirus program do you have, and do you update it regularly?

I think I might have found the program that was causing this and deleted it. Now my background blinks white to beige all the time. if I right click it and hit backwards link it changes to google search page.

Need more help anyone?

Ad-aware is the best out there--although I've heard good things about spybot. Either one will do the trick and you can get them both free.
