Well, I have all the goodies to that do what you are talking about. A brand new JVC digital vidcam, a FireWire card and all the various software and I can't get good video from DV to PC. Here's why. I'm running a 400MHz AMD K6-2 and while I have 192 mb of RAM, it's just not enough horsepower. You need a medium to fast Pentium or AMD chip with a motherboard that has a fast bus to get video that won't be choppy or not have the audio not sync'd to the video...

I have a TON of stuff from Asheville that I am pissed that I can't tranfer until I upgrade...but I will do that soon.

That's just a warning if you want to do this kind of think you need some farily serious horsepower...

The difference between digital 8 and mini-DV is the size of the tape. The mini-DV is much smaller than the digital 8. Also, the quality of the mini-DV is much better.
