Need a new TV Plasma/LCD 46"+
Long story short.
My 5 year old Gateway 42" plasma crapped out. parts to fix are NLA.
What should I be looking for and what are the pros and cons of the 2?
I hate the performance of my plasma in regards to dark scenes in movies/tv.
I have HD. And watch either that or DVD's Regular cable looks like crap on my current tv.
I was looking at a 46" Sony XBR LCD the other day at sears I can get with my card 10% off so Im looking at about 1800$ out the door.
I couldnt stand to be near the salesman any longer. he had very strong body odor.
Can someone educate me?
My eyes liked both the Sony LCD and the Sharp Aquos LCD.
THanks in advance.

Well, let's see you have a 5 year old Plasma and it crapped out. I'd say that gives you one of the downsides of plasma.
My son in law just lost his after 3 years. The repair men don't even want to work on it as they say they are disposable TVs.
He got an LCD and the pic quality is sooo much better. And as you said the dark scenes actually have detail in them now.
One downside, since it's winter, he lost his room heater when the plasma died.

The fact that his 5 year old set crapped out has no bearing on the reliability of plasmas in general.. and the technology has come a loooong way since 5 years ago.. and even three years ago. and even one year ago.

tv still turns on and displays a picture, the OSM will just keep poping up and every now and again it will switch sources.
I couldnt live with it.
I paid 1500$ for the thing 5 years ago. Closeout from Gateway.
42" plasmas were 3000$ back when i purchased this one.
