I went with the "Z" series Bravia LCD. 46"
has the same engine and display as the XBR, lacks a few of the features of that model but over all Im very pleased.
Now I have to convince the wife we need a blueray player.

I have mostly Sony electronics and I'm a huge Sony fan but it would be hard to overlook the new Samsung's. Fantastic picture quality and you will have enough money left over to buy a Blu-Ray player and have a nice meal with the money you save over the Sony.
