They make money by blackmailing people caught in compromising positions by the Google Van. The people you see in Gatecrasher's picture are the ones that failed to pay....

Heh, yeah they could monitize it today by charging an annual fee to keep your property 'private.' Plenty of paranoid moderately wealthy folks would sign up.
