Default Need opinions on power tools.

I'm looking at acquiring a compound mitre saw and a cordless hammer drill.

I was considering hitachi, makita, metabo or dewalt.

i have used all of the above brands apart from dewalt.
My question does anyone here have any good/bad experiences with dewalt products?

I love my dewalt stuff. Pretty much the only brand I (and most of my friends) buy. As far as I can tell, they are exceptionally reliable.

I wouldn't go any higher than the 18v stuff - it's pretty much all you need.

Thanks for the reply.

So are you saying that the 18v drill/drivers are plenty powerful for heavy duty use?

I have always been impressed by the torque of panasonis and makita drill drivers but have found some of the lower end AEG or bosch models to be lacking in power.

I own mostly Makita and DeWalt corded and cordless power tools. Both brands have performed flawlessly.

I love my 12" non-sliding Dewalt compount miter saw. I find the non-sliding models are easier and quicker to use, with some loss of functionality if you need to cut very wide stock.

My DeWalt 12" sliding compound Miter was setup properly out of the box and works great. Highly Recommended.

18V cordless tools can tackle any job you would take a comprable corded tool for...

I have some DeWalt 18v stuff. A while back I had burned up both my batteries while charging them (I had them for several years before this had happened). It turned out to be some short in the charger.

I took all my stuff to a DeWalt repair center and they gave me a brand new charger and 2 brand new batteries. I've been very happy with their products and their customer service.

IMHO, You can't go wrong DeWalt or Makita. I prefer Dewalt simply for the ergonomics.

Dewalt, Makita, or Porter & Cable all make excellent tools.

The Makiita has never let me down and keeps a fairly long charge. I built a deck and fence with them.

To be fair, I've never used their 24v stuff, and I don't know anyone who has. I do know that the 18v ones have been able to handle anything I've thrown at them. Don't forget the cost of the batteries. I just spent $75 on a new 18v battery. I can't even imagine how much a 24v one costs. Which is also a good point on the compound miters - i have a dewalt 12 inch non-sliding, and I really like it. However, blades seem to be about 3 times more than a 10" saw and a lot less plentiful.
