Need pet advice
I got a Jack Russell Terrier this past Feb. We always let him sleep with us at night. My girlfriend and I take turns so when he has to go potty, we take him out.
It seems like a ritual, 1AM, he wakes up, licks my face and I take him out.
4AM, he wakes up, he licks my face, I take him out.
6AM, he wakes up, he licks my face, I take him out.
Since we got him, I usually go to sleep around 10PM, or 10:30 if I watch the news. I keep him in a crate all day, along with a good mile run daily. I tried taking his food away before 7PM, but it doesn't seem to help.
I'm getting tired as hell. He's a bastard. He also nipped at me (playing around) and sliced open my nose. I bled for 15 minutes yesterday, it was somewhat amusing.
Anyone know how to rid him of his nightly routine?

Make him wait longer. Rather than accomadating his schedule, make him learn yours. When he wakes up and wants to go out make him wait another hour then week by week spread the time out. My dog has learned not to drink water when he won't be let out for awhile.
is he peeing on your laptop in your icon???
i think it's best if you keep him in a crate during the night. that way, you train him not to pee in his sleeping area, and to hold it through the night. it's after a while when he's more mature will he know not to pee in the house (which is when it's okay for him to sleep in the bed with you).
not sure that that's any help for you or not. hope your nose heals up okay!

I think we might be heading towards the crating him at night solution. I just feel bad that I keep him in his crate for 7 1/2 hours all day, then again at night. But I'd rather get some sleepy.
First, does he really do anything everytime you take him out? #1 or #2? Do you give him enough time outside? Maybe he just likes licking your face
Our dogs are grown ups and they still made us get up at 2 in the morning. I have finally found a way to avoid this. I feed them at around 5:00PM and them make sure to let them out at around 10:00-11:00 PM. I let them take their time (5-15 minutes). Now they don't wake us up anymore we just let them out in the morning when we get up.
If this does not help then you'd have to train the dog. The idea to keep him in a crate when you sleep is not bad. This way you don't have to worry about the dog ruining the bed in case he cannot control.

He always goes potty when we take him out. Even when I get up for work around 6:30AM, he'll go potty and still go back to sleep.
The main reason for keeping him in the crate is for "another" reason. I guess it's hard to snuggle with your woman with a Terrier ass in your face. I sware that bastard has to have one paw on me and another paw on my gf. He also gets pissed off when i cuddle with her. It's like a jealous ex girlfriend.

I'd like to get to that point. One of the reasons we keep him in the bed is so we know he needs to go potty at night.
If he's in his crate, i know he wont go in there, so He'll whine until we let him out.

Definitely keep him in his crate at night - pets don't like to mess up their personal space.
Secondly, don't leave water down for him after a certain time at night. That way he won't drink (and won't expect to).
Thirdly, exercise them well just before you bring them in for the night - don't ever bring them in without them doing their "business". Exercise tends to speed up their bowel movements and get as much out as possible. I used it on my old dog (he lived to be 16) and it worked great. Just a little bit of trotting or running will do it - five or six minutes, if not less.

Yup. Crate is the answer. Just make sure you've condoned off the total area in the crate so that your little buddy has just enough room to stand up and do a 360. Any more than that, and he's likely to find a nice, cozy spot to pee... or worse.
Dogs typically will not lie on their own filth... but they will happily lie next to it.
Wish I had advice for myself: I've got a 3 year old beagle that absolutely loves to lie around in her own pee.
We've tried everything imaginable, and this dog will still pee in her crate whenever she feels the urge...
Good Luck, and just say 'no' to terrier ass.
