Default Need some info on Grand Canyon hikes

Wanna grab a few buddies and fly to Vegas, rent a car and hike into the canyon, spend a day or two at the bottom, hike out, and then chill a couple days by the pool at Mandalay Bay or something.

What I am looking for is information about the different trails. This will be a bunch of old dudes who are about 40 years old. We would like to be able to get to our destination inside of a shorter day, spend a nights or two in a spot at the bottom that perhaps does not have too many people. (not that they would bother us, we like to tell stories and laugh it up at night by the fire) And then be able to make it back out inside of one day's hike. I understand coming back out is the hard part and will be about twice as long as going in.

Anybody have experience with a couple of the trails there can give me some pointers about what might meet my time expectations and which ones are convenient to drive to from Vegas?

Thanks in advance.

Raptor,

You actually gone in? I was thinking of the Hermit trail. Just did not know if getting the 8 miles out from the Colorado river was doable in one day.

From when I was there--rangers highly advise against doing this in the summer (for obvious reasons)

I did a long time ago. My father in law (God rest his soul) went in and came back out the same day.

Not being a smart ass, but did his death have anything to do with it? I ask because usually the only info mentioned in posts here is usually related to the topic...except in the Backlot.

No, he hiked the Grand Canyon when he was young and died of old age/dementia-related causes much later.

Ah I see. Didn't know if you were hinting that it is possible to do...but you might not survive the one-day version

Please continue without me, I'm clearly a burden on this thread
