Default Need some suggestions

So about once a week I get a call asking for the engineer who sat at my desk before me, but is no longer with the company. They always ask for him and I say he doesn't work here anymore, then they ask for his replacement. I use to say I was his replacement but then they try to give me the "free subscription" to a certain engineering magazine. I don't really want them, so I'd say no until I was blue in the face and basically hang up on them b/c they wouldn't shut up. Now I just say he doesn't have a replacement and thats the end of it.

Basically I'm looking for some suggestions to tell them something happened to this guy. Kind of like Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore telling people his girlfriend "fell off a cliff and died on impact" or "she was hit by a truck, shes dead." Things like that. Hopefully you guys have some good ones.

better yet, let your co-workers play along and come up with a new "event" every day or week for you to say. it'll be like a game.

injuries are better than death. he is on leave...scalded by molten on one side of his face, lost an arm from a machine....go by injuries that famous villains had to deal with

kfar09, there is no escaping the engineering magazine cold callers. Eventually you will come to realize this and you just won't pick up the phone, period

Why not the "this number is on the do not call registry" line?

Give the extension of someone you don't like at work.

"I guess you haven't heard. He just got a 10-year sentence for embezzeling quite a lot of money from this company. We were all in shock when we first found out about this. I suggest you try reaching him at Pelican Bay Penitentary in California."
