this actually works....go buy several rolls of cheap contact[shelf]paper...peel off the backing paper and lay it on your hood, top, trunk[i do this over a car cover]stickey side up..tape it down lightly ..and wait..the cat,a smart animal, hates the surface and will figure this is not a good place to be and will avoid your car....it may take a few applications but hang in there....

The only house cat I have ever cared for is one made of porcelain. Time to declare war on your feline pests my friend! Had a yellow lab as a boy. Winter came, cat goes under hood to keep warm, dog walks by, cat jumps down, makes run for it...Snap goes the dog's jaws...so long pussy! I feel much better now that I have shared this.

S2KMan, who went off and got married and doesn't hang out here anymore, rigged up a hose, a lawn sprinkler valve and a motion detector.

Whenever a cat triggered the motion detector it would get a blast from the hose! He had it aimed so that it didn't hit the car, but got the cat pretty good. He even rigged up a video camera to test the effectiveness and got some wet cats on camera. The local cats learned that this was not a good place to be and don't use his car for their naps anymore.

When this same topic came up on Honda-Acura, I asked everyone to PLEASE stop making any suggestions of harming animals and ended up having to lock the thread. This is distressing to me, as well as other people who may stumble across threads like this one. If you had ever had to try and rehabilitate an animal who has been the victim of senseless cruelty, the thought would never cross your mind to suggest electrocuting, poisoning, or otherwise harming an animal. I work closely with Florida Boxer Rescue, where we have a Boxer only 3 years old with severe arthritis in his back because he was shot repeatedly with bird pellets. Much to everyone's amazement, he's still a very trusting, loving dog. This isnt the worst story I have to tell, but this dog is in foster with FBR as we speak. It's this sort of thing that I deal with regularly that won't let me watch threads like this or let attitudes like this go quietly.

Think about this: if your children won't stay out of my yard, should I set something up to electrically shock them or leave poison-laced candy laying around? Animals and children carry equal weight to me because they are both dependant on US, and it doesn't matter to me whether it's a stray or not.

Please, have some respect for animal lovers on this board. You can replace a car, but not a life.

I certainly respect your view but not necessarily agree with you. We certainly do have different things that we value in life especially on children, properties, and animals. If it is OK for animal lovers to express their views but not vice versa? Or is it OK to suppress one's view on pro choice from pro life? It's endless. Since Siva was openly asking for advice, he shall receive. What would be your suggestions?

I don't think placing some contact paper on the car is going to cause psychological damage to the cat. No more than kikking the cat accross the garage for scratching the hell out of the car. I'm going to Home Depot to buy some now. My wife's V6 is just covered with scratches from the cat. He can't get traction on the Zaino so he just keeps spinning the wheels.

Well I just got arrested for pissing on my car. (just kidding) I think I would get booted out of my neighborhood though. Has anyone thought to approach the owners of the cats? Isn't it their responsibility to make sure that their animals don't do damage to someone elses property. And I love animals too, but if my child damaged someone elses property it's now my puppy. (or kitten) I have the same problem at our shop. Neighbors cats are starting to get on our customers cars. I have approached them and told them it must stop. My next step will be to call the animal warden and let them do whatever they want with those "darn cats". P.S. have you tried a dish of antifreeze?

sondra...believe me, when i first tried this,my wife freaked!!she had visions of cats rolled up in huge wads of contact paper...however, it seems the critters have the ability to secrete some form of oil from their paw pads....they don't stick!!i actually saw a set or two of tracks across the paper!! i guess the don't like the "feel" of it and stay away....cheaper than a doberman!
