Default Netflix questions

Hey guys. I'm not a Netflix user and there website doesn't have some of the answers to questions I have. First, how many movies can you download at a time to a xbox or ps3 and how long do you get to keep the movies once you download them?

Netflix online is a streaming service. You stream one movie at a time per account. You do not "keep" the movies in the traditional sense.

Netflix DVD service sends anywhere from 1-8 DVDs at a time, with the right to trade discs at certain intervals. I have a 3-disc membership, and they let me trade all 3 discs nearly as fast as I can watch them - there are real guidelines buried somewhere in the fine print.

NetFlix is also about to raise the price on various services. Several TV shows have also just been dropped from their line up. We are not thrilled with them at the monment.

Keep in mind, those who are pissed with Netflix right now: all of the pricing increases are because of the contracts with movie studios and TV networks. They are seeing the success of Netflix and .. I don't know... trying to milk it for all it's worth I guess?

The pricing increase just jumped me from $12/month to 18.

That they did, I was paying $9/mo for 1 DVD + streaming now they're splitting the services and charging $7.99 per service effective Sept. 1. $14.98 for both now? I'm thinking about dropping...

Yeah, not too happy with Netflix right now. They raised prices 6-8 months ago basically incenting customers to move to streaming. Unfortunately their streaming lineup is weak. In order to see the movies/shows I want, I need to retain my disc membership. I guess I could cancel streaming and go straight disc. Of course I could also ride to work on a donkey instead of my driving my car.

It's easy to blame the studios for the price increase, but that isn't even the Netflix company line. We don't need to make excuses for them.

Netflix is changing, the best bet imo will be to pay for the streaming service and hit up a Red Box for a $1 rental when you want a new movie. Netflix has for a long time stated it wanted to move away from discs - there is a huge cost in the distro centers, mailing rates, and physical discs in addition to the licensing rights. Its aggressively building its streaming library but its still kind of weak imo.

Netflix was great but as its been a success the content providers want to get in on the game and they are raising contract prices and carving up what they offer to Netflix so they can put out their own services.

HBO is pulling all its shows from Netflix that are still in production and offering a free streaming service for those who subscribe, for example. Its a money grab by the content providers and we and Netflix are kind of caught in the middle.

Apparently no one has thought ahead enough that we might want one service to get all out content rather than be subscribed to half a dozen. It will get even better as the ISPs start charging more for bandwidth to actually stream all this stuff.
