Default Networksolutions.com

Ive been deciding on how to go about buliding a website. i mainly want one right now for personal use, but with the ability to evolve into a better site when/if i ever get my company going. i was checking out networksolutions.com and i like what they have to offer compared to other sites, but im not too knowlegable on what is what.

what im mainly trying to find out is, is this web site worth it? next year im going to probably take a web-design class in school, so im trying to figure out if i should just wait. it cant be too hard to make a site from scratch, i have a descent knowlege about computers, and i know what i want it to look like. i just dont have the shoftware, and im not suing HTML in notepad.

so what do you guys think? im open to any type of suggestions and experiences.

I hate network solutions (really verisign) and wouldn't hire them to clean puke off my driveway.

I use dotster.com for my domain registrations, because they're cheaper, offer the same stuff (although I just use them as a registrar), and have better support.

Also, so far they haven't tried to highjack the Internet with something like NetSol's stupid redirector service that caused such an outrage.

Talk to your ISP. Many internet accounts include a small website as part of the monthly fee. For example, earthlink gives their users a 10 MB website as part of their standard unlimited dial up package:

https://store.earthlink.net/cgi-bin/wsisa.d...oduct=unlimited

So you may already have your website and just not know it. Check with your ISP to see.

Oh, and network solutions sucks. Use anyone but them if you do end up paying for the site.

well from what im gathering, networksolutions is not for me. it might be easier to do it myself and just purchase the domain name.

so lets say i learn to make a site from scratch, and i get a domain name...how do i host the site i made with my domain name? also, where are good places to buy a domain name, and host it?

godaddy.com has good deals on domain names, around $4-$7 annual.

Check into site5.com for the best pricing on Web hosting for what you pay for... their deal of $6.95 for 1.5Gb of space with 50Gb of bandwidth is amongst the best deals on the 'net.

Once you get an account with a Web hoster (site5, in this case), they'll assign you a domain pointer (address, typically 2 of them) that you will input to your domain name company (this case, godaddy, and you more than likely do it manually from your login console) so that whenever someone accesses your domain, they will be directed to site5's Web servers.

You should already have your server logins (from site5) available so that you can begin FTP'ing files to your server space so that all in the world can see them. Keep in mind that the propagation process of your domain name and Web server connectivity may take a day or two. Also, your domain company may take a day or two processing your name and app.

Only if the domain that you WANT is available in a .com. Not many of the good ones left, but good luck. If it isn't available, you are always able to choose alternatives, e.g. .net, .biz, .us, .org, etc...
