New direction in life > What to do with college?
So I am in school for Computer Science. 1.5 years left.
It has hit me the other day that I do not want to sit behind a computer all day. I want to WANT to go to work in the morning. I want to do something I am passionate about.
I got into the computer field in pursuit of money. It is there but I cannot stand doing what I do anymore (I am a network admin for a small accounting firm).
I am 22 years old, I feel like I am floating and in need of direction in life.
I am passionate about cars. I think I would utimately like to own a bodyshop/tuning shop/aftermarket parts business. It sounds like a pipedream but this is where my heart lies.
Should I switch majors to business? Should I attend something like UTI or Wyotech or start getting certified to tune cars with Cobb, Dynojet, Diablosport etc? Should I go to school for bodywork on cars?
Im not sure how I should approach this goal of mine.... What are your thoughts?
TIA!

If you have a computer science degree you will always have work.
Performance and tuning shops come and go. If you want to last you need a good location that is not served well. You need to have some cash saved up. You should be an expert at tuning before you start, and be prepared to put in longer hours than you can imagine when you get started.
One is a boring sure thing, the other carries high risk but greater satisfaction if you succeed.
I want to own my own concept for a sports bar, but here I sit at the computer.

lol what better place to ask for life advice than a forum full of strangers?

Honestly, I'd finish my degree. Then maybe use those skills you've acquired and apply them to your desired type of business. IE, you could be a tuner, but start as a web presence tuner and then once that business takes off, open up a brick and mortar shop if you so desire. Then you could always go back and get your MBA.

Some actual business classes and marketing cant hurt either.
Nothing worse than seeing a person who does something well, wanting to make a business out of that knowledge and not knowing the first thing about running a business.
working as a tuner/bodywork specialist is entirely different than owning one or both of those businesses.
If you dont have rock solid knowledge of either of those fields now you will need to spend years learning the craft of either so, factor that in as well.
Finish your degree and then work toward your ultimate goal by taking the appropriate small steps one at a time.
what was the passion that made you chose the major you are in now? something drove you to that....unless you threw a dart at the wall to choose your major.....make sure what you are contimplating is indeed the way you want to go.

I am good with computers, fascinated with technology and love money. That is what drove me to the computer field.
I think it would be smart for me to earn the CS degree and use that as a vehicle to earn the capitol required for learning to tune/starting a business in the automotive field.
I am feeling like I have in depth, specific knowledge in valuable areas but I am trying to bring it all together to pursue my passions.
Thanks for the advice so far!
