New iPods
i dont see how its apple's fault that many, many people couldnt wait and HAD to have it, so they paid for it. i think its kinda cool, those of us that can sit back and wait for it to come down in price, and now we're nicely rewarded.
thanks apple!
if you paid $700 bucks for a phone, you obviously could afford it, so why bitch about $200 now? you probably spent that at lunch today. dont feel sorry for you.

I think it shows Steve Jobs is very smart. His company has a great reputation and rather than saying screw you early adopters, he's doing great PR
Great Job apple. I think I'll be getting a 160 gigger soon!
way to go Steve!

That refund sets a weird precedent. Early adopters always pay a higher price. That's just the way it is. What a bunch of whiners!
Keep in mind the cost of the required 2-year contract. The iPhone costs $2038. So with the price drop, it's $1838 over the two year life of the contract. Big deal. It's not that big of a difference in price. I don't know why so many are bent out of shape about 10%. But it's moot...Steve caved. He didn't have to.

Apple is giving a $100 store credit to early "adopters" of the iPhone.

The problem here is that by dropping the price so significantly only two months after the launch Apple has set a new precedent. Obviously the price of the iPhone was going to come down however I don't think anyone expected such a large slash so early on.
If you look at the history of Apple products the price breaks typically happen much later and at a much lower level.
I did buy the iPhone when it launched, but it was a lot of money to me. I am not walking around wiping my ass with $600 (and I certainly didn't spend $200 on my lunch today or any other day).
I think its safe to say that many people went ahead and dropped the $600 on the phone even though they thought it was a lot of money because they figured it would be several months before any significant change in price occurred.
I'm not asking anyone to feel sorry for me.
Was I upset at the price drop? Yes. Would I have gotten over it anyway had Apple not offered the store credit? Eventually, but with a soured view of a company I have been loyal to for 20 years. What impact does the store credit have on me? I have a renewed faith in a great company and I think the credit is a VERY good gesture on their part.
