Anyone else read this? The new Spyder gets what they are calling SMT...a sequential shifter!

On second thought, I really love shifting with the S2000's shifter. Perfect throw, very precise...man, I love it!

Nevermind...!

Hey can you take this argument outside?

I prefer doing the work myself, but I would be curious to try it.

That's right folks! Now Toyota, how about a more powerful engine with that SMT?!

Here are some SMT related threads on SpyderChat for those who are interested:

I wonder if we would get one that grinds 1-2 without driver involvement?

The SMT is likely to be the same one they use on the Celica - basically just a fancy automatic with pushbuttons. No hydraulically actuated dry clutch, no German/Italian style hyper-efficient design - just a viscous coupler (that means fluid and that means inneficient power transfer). They left it out the first few years for 'weight' reduction...

Now that ain't what the Chrysler salesman told me the other day when he was describing the automatic/manual shift on the Prowler. After he went on for 5 minutes and I was slipping away back into the S 2000 and I finally explained to him that torque converters are for little rich girls and boys who haven't learned how to drive yet!
