New Proposal for WTC Replacement....Your thoughts?
I say build something. Terrorists will always try to find ways to attack us whether we build something or not. I say screw those mutherf*ckers. They're cowards anyway because they attack civilians. What are we gonna do? Change them? I say we keep going and just keep proving time and time again that they are insignificant on the world stage.
Walk on, America!!!
Walk on, America!!!
I say yes, build something, but not this.
I think it is ugly, out of proportion and doesn't fit with it's surroundings.
This is an opportunity to build something beautiful in memory for those who died.

I think that if this is truly gonna be a "cyber city" tower, that this is the look for it. It's been too long since there was cutting edge design, and I personally love the design of the new center because it pushes the edge forward in design and culture. Very well designed

That said, I did like the idea of the arboritums with a tree for each person killed in the attacks. But what the heck was that defense system the presentation mentioned? It claimed some kind of sound wave system could stop any flying object in the vicinity
. I don't think so.
We MUST built taller, larger, and wider then before. We need to show the world both enemy and allies that we will rise in the face of all who oppose us on any level. The harder you hit us the harder we come back. The strength of this country and this state is never ending. I believe this design shows these ideas. It looks like nothing else in New York and that is good. I certainly doesn't blend into the skyline and that is also good. It screams "here I am, in your face" and that is what needs to be said.
I love the idea of the trees planted in memory of the fallen. No matter what they decide to build that idea must come to be. There were a few things I was not keen on. One, being the helicopter landing pads in between the towers. The idea of a 5 mile no fly zone is wonderful, but the two cannot be combined. The idea of a sound wave defense is interesting to say the least, but seems improbable to say the least. All in all it is a superb concept. The fact that it would be the tallest building in the world is awesome.
As a New Yorker I feel we, both as a state and a country, need something like this. I, like many others here, lost both friends and neighbors that day. For those of you who are not sitting just outside of ground zero it may be hard to understand. I see people everyday who lost there father or sister over nothing. Many families in my neighborhood have been torn apart by 9/11. We need a place to stand proud and cheer. To scream out loud in joy for the spirit of America. We need a place to console and mourn our lost countrymen.
We need this.

Aside from the "safety" part, I like it as a whole. I don't think the "no fly zone" should be allowed. I don't think terrorists will use planes anymore - we've wisened up to that. They will devise a new method. Terrorism is a game of cat and mouse, not a fixed target.
I do think whatever gets built there should be taller than the Petronas and have a higher top floor than the Sears Tower (the real tallest building - screw those antennas!). I don't think the Petronas are that great - beautiful at night, but not as functional as the buildings could (should?) be.
I do like the atrium/memorial idea. Putting life where there was before death is a fitting way to move on. The plaque by each tree part is silly, but a wall (a la the Vietnam Memorial) would be suitable.
I agree that whatever is built should be ultra-high-tech. Most of Manhatten is "old" and a new WTC should stand out!
Anyway, we shall see what the port authority does. They were having trouble finding clients, who is to say that people/companies that lost so much already will be willing to go back.

The new structure should reflect the power of a free economy, freedom of speach, freedom of tyrany, and freedom of religion. It should have a major component that honors the dead and thousands of heroes that risked their lives and gave up so much of themselves for others. It should give pause to everyone who views it and cause serious reflection on the past as well as this future of this great country.
Personally I believe that a special voluntary fund administered by the government should be established for funding project costs over and above normal costs. Cutting edge AMERICAN technology should be used in the design. It should employ the most creative thought, design and quality imaginable. Such a structure would be cost prohibitive in the strictly private sector, but with all Americans participating in the funding, amazing things can be acomplished.
This new structure should be the undisputed eighth wonder of the world. It cannot be the clumsy, uninspiring assemblage of icons of the past. It has to be unique in every way. I has to have it's own unique presence in all of history.
I don't think this design comes close.

no way. that thing looks absolutely terrible. i miss my towers from the view out my window every single day, and i really would not want to see that grotesque structure looming in my field of vision. i do agree that we need to build something, but what i do not know. the ideas that the designers had are excellent, and im sure at one point during the design of the new building(s), someone probably said, "hmm.. thats *too* much..", which is the way i feel about it right now.
as for the 5 mile no fly rule, thats going to be very hard to do.. when taxi'ing for laguardia, planes fly up the west side, and south the east side.. kennedy uses brooklyn/queens/nassau, and newark uses staten island/nj.
anyways, im sure someone out there is designing something that will appeal to everybody.
