New RIAA Lawsuit
So, all this being said...here's a what if:
I have a friend that has a CD wallet completely full, let's say of 200 albums that he bought over the years. He recently went deaf and has no need for the music anymore but doesnt want it to go to waste. I buy all 200 CDs from him at a fair price considering they are used and not 100% perfect. The recording industry is not making a dime from me, yet I didnt "steal" the music but ownership was instead transferred
IMHO, I know eveyone has to make a living, but in my eyes most recording artists and label higher ups live in excess, and they are upset that now they can only afford to stay in the $10K / night penthouse instead of the $15K / night one. The money a lot of these people throw around on the most ridiculous things is mind-boggling at times. Im not saying stealing is right, but perhaps the decline in profits, and Im sure they are still profits, may be a good wake-up call.

What a person does with their money is mostly their own business. What boggles the record executives minds is the idea of promoting artists that might actually sell to real music buyers (namely, adults 23+) rather than to people who have no desire or money to pay for anything.
More to the point of what I think you're getting at (in terms of excess); it would probably behoove the major record companies to get out of the "celebrity generation business" and get back into the clubs and just find real talent.

Oh, and don't worry about the decline in profits - we discovered the only way to maintain our margins was to reduce cost. We started where most companies start - by reviewing overhead, specifically payroll.
