A friend was telling me that "they" are comeing out with a new chip for DigiCams that gives longer battery life and better pics.
Does anyone know where I can find out about these. I have done some searches but...
He said they should be out by the end of the year.

I don't doubt it in the least. I'm sure the companies that make them will let you know

There's always going to be a new latest and greatest <insert your choice here> just as soon as you buy it, particularly if it's electronics. That's the downside to the fact that technology changes so fast.

But there's also lost opportunity cost, which is anything that you would have gained by buying it now rather than later.

My brother-in-law, who is as computer-illiterate as someone can be, has just bought his second computer (replacing a 486), which is once again, newer and faster with more capacity than any of my computers. And for less. Go figure!

His lost opportunity cost for not upgrading 2-3 years ago when I first suggested it: He had never been on the Internet before now.

My six year old has a p100(my fist pc). I am shocked yours slower than a 486.
Oh wait...his new computer is faster than yours. Well I am still suffering with a PII400 which cost me less than the p100 mentioned above.

I use a K6-2-300 server and a k6-2-400 station. I see no reason to upgrade.
I can surf, I can type and I can play diablo II.

All the important things right
my problem with the pII400 is I upgraded to directx7 and my vidcard doesn't like it.
I have a black patch on my screen.
I went to the vidcard's web site and guess what they don't support directx7 with my dinosaur(2 year old) card.
Bummer.
My games work fine(starcraft) but my kids games don't work so well just ok.

Yeah.. that's really weird.

I guess new technology that saves battery life/improves image quality is always coming out. Just look at the new Digic II for the Canon SLRs.
