my problem with the pII400 is I upgraded to directx7 and my vidcard doesn't like it.
I have a black patch on my screen.
I went to the vidcard's web site and guess what they don't support directx7 with my dinosaur(2 year old) card.
Bummer.
My games work fine(starcraft) but my kids games don't work so well just ok. [/QUOTE]
I love Starcraft but at 400MHZ you slow down other games.

I had a 450 PII and it would really slow down on the long games. If you get up to around 800 it should be fine.

Eh, this thread is 4 and a half years old. Speaking of Digic II, I've got my eye on an EOS Rebel XT 8MPixel goodness

I guess I should contribute since I have a low member number. I don't have a 486 processor in my computer.

I didn't realize it was 4 years old.

cthree, if you're #2 who's #1?

I'm really looking into that XT as well. Keep an eye out for those Dell deals. You can pick up a body for ~$700. Then it's time to save up for nice glass.

Dude! I thought you were #!

I've never seen the body for $800, $900 yes but not $800. Even still it makes no sense for me just to buy a body since I don't have any lenses. You can get the whole kit for $989 at TigerDirect which makes the stock lens $90 when bought together. I'd also like a something in the 400mm range, maybe zoom but a stabilized zoom to 400mm is $$$ (more than the camera and rightly so). The stock lens is far more than adequate IMO for general photography and since the body is useless with out a lens I'll likely get the package.

Compared to my 2MPix PowerShot S100 I think it will do nicely

From Dell, a couple weeks ago:

CANON EOS Digital Rebel Camera with 256 MB CompactFlash Card
$803 - 10% 6$K9TPJ191?VTZ - $90 S$0BW75H54S60M = $632
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT SLR Camera (Black or Silver)
$899 - 10% off 6$K9TPJ191?VTZ - $90 S$0BW75H54S60M = $719
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT SLR Camera w/ 18-55 mm Lens (Black or Silver)
$999 - 10% 6FLLKQ5?GRKH17 - $90 S$0BW75H54S60M = $809

I'll PM you if a new one comes up
