Everything in the U.S. has been going "upscale" for quite some time.
Target got on the bandwagon with having REAL designers and people with some tangible cache to help their clothing and products (example: Target calling on designer Izak Mizrahe versus Wal-Mart or K-mart using Lifetime washup Jacklyn Smith).
It's the little things too: Moving to a toned paint in a store versus the sanitary Wal-Mart white and blue scheme.
In a time where the elite like to remain elite, and where everyone else wants "da bling." Upscale items (and their 'good-enuf' products) need to sell.
Sensible American spending is dead.
