Nice Skyline in SoCA
Yes, that's a cool Skyline, Loki. My friend Nick (GTRPower) just left for One Lap this morning in his R-32. It's probably the most highly modified Skyline in the country, which there are about 50 total. He has had his since 92 when he got it new. It's got the 2.6l motor with HKS turbos, fully built internals, bling bling wheels, the whole shot. It's putting down about 600 at the wheels at moderate boost...and it's completely insane.
And yes, 1Y2KS2K, it's a rather unassuming vehicle. I would agree with others here who say it's a wolf in sheep's clothing. You may not even notice it as it rolls around town, but on the race track, it's one of the best performing vehicles in the world. All wheel steering and all wheel drive contribute to a very intense driving experience. I have ridden in it at Gingerman....
Additionally, I met Sean from Motorex when he was in town to do some things to Nick's car a while back. And we talked in depth about the car. And I learned that in Japan, there are versions of the Skyline that are plain old garden variety, nothing-special Skylines. Then there are stock versions that perform like beasts. I don't know how many variants there are from the factory, but it's a lot, it is probably more than any other production car. At least that is my impression...
But yea, it's easy to build these things out and they respond VERY favorably to modifications.
Take Nick's for example, at a "mini" One Lap when they were tuning the car a few months back, one of the runs was a 1/4 mile jaunt. His car ran a 12.9...at about 110, if I recall correctly...BUT, third gear was broken and he had to shift from 1-2-4...Imagine what you would pull without third gear.
Mad...
Wish Nick and Emmanuel luck...I hope they bring back the leather One Lap jackets in 8 days!
