Default Normal/acceptable to be a nerd/geek?

I'm trying to gauge the general (and honest) perception of nerdiness/geekiness these days. Regardless of whether or not you are yourself a "nerd", please vote according to how you feel about *others*.

The Question: Is it normal/acceptable for someone *other than yourself* to be a nerd/geek?

Vote a Yes answer only if you are someone who would be comfortable befriending a nerd.
Vote No only if you find it uncomfortable to be around a nerd or have strong feelings that the nerd in question needs to do some serious social-skill improvements.
Vote "Define Nerd" if you can't decide or could go either way, "depending." (In this case, maybe post something to explain?)

Thanks!

IMO, the problem would lie not within someone being a geek, but in someone being unaccepting of that person solely on that basis. While geeks/nerds might not be the most outgoing people you'll meet, they tend to be much better friends than your average socialite. Anyone who looks down on a geek needs a reality check. Just IMO of course

I voted "Yes no exceptions". Of course I went to an engineering college and 2/3 of my friends could be considered geeks, so I am somewhat biased on that

My wife is a geek. I, of course, am ubercool. We compliment each other nicely.

Depends what you mean by "geek" - am sure different people will have different views on what it means.

This is how I feel... I am an internet nerd. I tell people I am a nerd and they say I am not a nerd. So when I want to talk about internet things, I like to hang around "nerds." (NOT ALOT ON THIS FREAKING CAMPUS THOUGH I'LL TELL YOU THAT). Anyways, if I was like walking in the mall with a "nerd" I could care less as long as he/she doesn't make me feel uncomfortable... blah
