Not the right topic to ask here
I just got back from my vacation in Thailand about 13 hours ago, and upon my time there I decided my life here in America sucks
In any case, I've decided to look into teaching English abroad.
Found nothing in the handy search option provided, so I figure I'll bring this topic up.
Would there be any s2ki-ers here with any affiliation or background knowledge of said position as an international English teacher. I'm trying to muster up as much info as I can about what courses, college (if needed), other schools or training facilities that can aid in becoming a certified TEFL international expat or guide me to becoming said teacher the best way and with most recognized certification as possible.
Honestly, I fell in love with Asia. Was in Tokyo/Narita int. airport for a good combination of 10 hours of layover, but couldn't help to want to discover Japan while working there.
As far as Thailand, I made a great amount of friends through a close girl-friend I know there as well as her family. So the aspect of knowing people there isn't a huge issue.
9 days, I have found, in Thailand was surely not enough.
I'm not relying on s2ki or its members for all the information I seek, but it would be awesome as hell if you guys have experience to share or have the helpful guidance.
As this would be a huge change in my working life and life in general, I'd appreciate relevant posts to the subject.
BTW, Khao san rd is nice during the day but is a huge red light district at night. I'm not a party person or a social person, so I have nothing but negative views about such a nightlife. However, Ottawa floating market was crowded like hell but awesome all around. Pattaya was amazing, but Koh Larn took the cake as a beautiful island that you'd most likely see honeymooners go to.
And yes, scooters are fun as hell to drive. I drove a Mia Fino, which my close friend absolutely loves. Shamefully I didn't see a single S2K there. But she loves my S, its color, and wants to drive it.
Anyway, I hope I can receive a few posts about TEFL courses or any other courses that are similar, some experiences if any and some pointers if you got them.
Thanks
Oh, I would also like to give a heads up that I maybe be selling my 07 CBR.
Most likely take over payments. This does not mean I will hand over the keys and payment book. This means the said buyer must qualify for the remainder of what I owe. A final decision will be made shortly on this subject as I need to find out what is left on the loan.
Also, for the music people, I will be selling a Roland Phantom X6.
I will have a separate post for these items in the near future. Most likely these items will be sold nationally in the U.S. but preferred locally in the Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin area (Chicago, Rockford, Beloit ect.)

Your story sounds awfully like...
Charisma Man
A charisma man is typically a western male in an Asia country who enjoys unexpected popularity, particularly if he was nothing special in his home country.

I remember seeing that somewhere. But you must remember, I already knew someone in Thailand. Was up to her to show me to her parents and her friends.
Not quite the same as "charisma man", however my dislike of western culture remains.
Be that I look similar to such comic, oh well.. I'm doing what makes me happy.

korea is always looking for english teachers. i would check up on that. i hear that the benefits are great
but I'm more interested in the best paths possible to reach a goal in teaching in those countries, rather then which ones to start teaching in before I even have a hint of relevant schooling or training behind me.
Imnida,
Here is one site that might be of interest, I'm cannot vouch for this site, but just Google teaching English abroad and you will have some resources. Hopefully someone with actual teaching experience abroad will chime in with factual information.
Good luck in your endeavor!

A friend of mine taught English in S Korea for a year almost right out of college. He didn't need ANY background in teaching, or any knowledge of Korean to do so. Srsly he has an asian fetish and even though he won't admit it, we all know thats why he really went. Anyway, I'll try to get in touch and get some info from him.
I have quite a few questions lingering in my head already.
One of my friends also knows someone that teaches in S. Korea as well... But he is currently there teaching I believe.
But yea, that would seriously be great if you can contact him... I just hope I wont be too much trouble to ask a few questions.
