GEORGETOWN -- Laynoil Tratel Jefferson had a bottle of Bud Light in his left hand, $5 in his right hand and nothing on in between.
"I remember him very well," Taylor police officer Frank Alvarado said. "I told him, 'You ought to be making movies, not robbing stores.' "
Alvarado was driving by the Shop & Go in Taylor on Feb. 15 when he saw Jefferson jump over the store's counter and threaten the clerk with a beer bottle, prosecutors said. Alvarado cornered Jefferson at the back of the store and handcuffed him.
Jefferson, 24, a Taylor resident who had been convicted of robbery in Tarrant County, pleaded guilty Monday to robbery and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He also pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of sexual assault of a child and received another 20-year sentence. He will serve both sentences at the same time.
"You should be able to go to the store and buy your groceries without being confronted by a naked man," Williamson County District Attorney John Bradley said.
"This is the only naked robbery case that I've handled," he said. "I'm holding back a lot. Just don't ask me if he was armed."
Jefferson did not have any weapons other than the beer bottle, and no one was hurt during the robbery. "Probably his own pride, but that's about it," Bradley said.
Jefferson's lawyer could not be reached for comment.
In the second case, prosecutors found that Jefferson had sex repeatedly over the course of a year with a 14-year-old he identified as his girlfriend. He said he broke up with the girl after he found out she was a minor. The girl said the sex was consensual. Jefferson will be required to register as a sex offender.
Jefferson told authorities that on the night of the robbery, he had smoked a marijuana joint that had been dipped in embalming fluid. He had taken his clothes off about two blocks away and left them in a pile in the middle of the street.
"I couldn't keep from laughing," Alvarado said. "It was cold that night. I don't know if he was hot or not."
