Oakleys are great as sports glasses - that's what they're designed for. The lenses are designed to be very light and optically correct, but they are soft compared to glass and can scratch easily, so you have to take care of them. I have several Oakleys that are over 7 years old and are still in great condition, but you have to be careful with cleaning them and not dropping them.

Luxottica owns Ray Ban, Revo, Sunglass Hut, Lenscrafters, and now Oakley, so prescription eyeware is all "in house" now. Still, I'd go with Titanium Sport Maui Jims if I was going to get Rx in a sport glass - I think they hold up better in every day use.

i paid $300 for the lens. i just took my prescription and sunglasses to the factory and picked them up a few days later. the have lasted 7+ years. the prescription is no longer ideal for me but good enough for sunglasses. i also broke the frames once, took it to them the took out my lens and put them in new glasses. in and out in 5 minutes.

I had a pair of rx oakleys but lost them in the drink. When I went to get a new set, the optician talked me into Maui Jims. I've been very happy with these, great glasses, you should think about checking these out as well. All-in cost was around $450.

Most Oakley dealers use their central lens grinding service because the shapes get pretty radical. Check the Rx limits before you buy because they vary by frame style. If you have to ask how much you can't afford it. I recall my local dealer wanted $350 for "simple" lenses!
