Observations from Osaka, Japan
So I'm in Osaka on the 3rd day of a business trip, wanted to share a few random thoughts.
First of all: Not a SINGLE s2000. A few lambos, bentleys, AMG benzos, several generations of evos and GTR's (inluding an R35), an R8.. but not one s2k. Most of the cars are little suzukis and toyota cressida taxis (immaculate).
60+% of the population is walking around in a slimfit black or charcoal 2-button suit and carrying a briefcase. Even at midnight. What's in the case?
A bunch of people wearing SARS masks. Thought that was a china thing.
HOT coffee vending machines in cans everywhere.
Hardly anyone speaks a single word of english. I'm surprised. If I ever come back I want a tour guide.
Food is AWFUL AWFUL. What's with the mystery jelly meat they call beef?
Although the carousel w sushi that you pick what you want was cool.
Bring $$$$. Even with the dollar doing well against the Yen, prices here make NYC seem cheap.
You know those sci-fi movies where there are entire underground cities because the world is so pulluted we had to move underground? It's not sci-fi. It's real. MILES AND MILES of underground multilayered malls.
Women here do not make eye contact. Except if they're already with a guy, then they wink and smile and giggle. I've never had an "asian fetish", but wow there's some gorgeous girls here. And I love the way they dress. High socks, high boots, short skirts. SEXY!
Tons of "girl bars" . Where you pay exhorbitant amounts of money to talk to girls. I don't know if they're prostitutes or not. I'm not going to find out.
Flying back tonight - I want a double double so bad ...

They are not prostitutes; but they come pretty close to it. We called them "juiceys" in Okinawa. The girls the OP is refering to are not bartenders but women that you pay to sit with you and talk. They will approach you and ask if you want to buy them a drink. As long as you keep paying, they will keep talking. If they like you, then they will proposition you and you have to pay "mama-san" what the girl would typically bring in for a night so that the "juicy" can go home with you. But this does not mean the "juicy" has to have sex with you. She makes that decision... (She can also choose to date you)
During my stint in Oki, I never once paid a "juicy" to talk or to do anything else. But I had plenty of coworkers that did and a few that actually had relationships with some. Hope that clarifies things for you. They have them in the Phillipines, Korea, China, etc.. as well.

ahh osaka!! i was working near osaka (in shiga ken) and living by myself last year for half a year.. i miss osaka and all of my friends there. i'm jealous of you!
the mask is to keep other from getting sick, but primarily for yourself. when you're sick, the humid air is easier to breath in than the dry air. atleast from what some of my friends told me.
regarding cars, all i saw were evos, stis, gtr's, and silvias.
what the hell are you talking about? the food there is delicious! okonomiyaki and takoyaki ftmfw.
i got a lot of stares in japan. i lived in a small town, so it was more rare for an extremely brown guy to be talking to them in broken japanese. i got some stares in osaka too.
hot girls are plentiful in the trains. but i hate the ones who are covered in so much make up. but a lot of hot girls, i miss mines too
you are sooo right about the money. i spent a good majority of my pay for train fares...
the next time you go, i really recommend kobe and kyoto, i think they are far more interesting than osaka.
have a safe flight back!
ahh damn, memories

ofcourse I was only here for a little over two days, so I just got a glimpse little over two days, so I just got a glimpse, and a days, so I just got a glimpse, and a lot of times first just got a glimpse, and a lot of times first impressions are a bit off. At the airport now. Looking forward to a cheeseburger.
The heated toilet seats were downright creepy the First time I sat down. Felt like someone had JUST gotten off the seat. yuck!
Maybe I went to bad restaurants?
Highlight of the trip was ending up in a random upstairs dive bar/music lounge where the only other people were in various bands. Not karaoke, but actual bands. Noone spoke english. But they were super nice to us and brought us champagne and strawberries. Something about an anniversary.
The shopping district in namba and also around the osaka train station is absolutely overwhelming and a little frightening at first glance. Again, I wish I had a tour guide。

There seems to be a lot of parallels between Japan and South Korea..
Guys go right from work to get drunk. Seeing guys in suits and briefcases puking on the side of the road during the evening is not uncommon.. and it's ****ing hilarious.
The masks are a courtesy. They are worn to protect YOU from THEM, as mentioned above.
The girls love blonde dudes.. it's crazy. Random girls running up to you and touching your hair.. lolz. I'm not blonde though, just saying.
