Wow . Love the idea of doing it and have having one. But the daily upkeep would kill me.

What a perfect weekend, got alot done weather was great! No RAIN!

Finished diging out final part of the pond.
Leveled bottom.
Added Bottom Drains/piping/filtration lines/pump box, and waterfall stocktank, with wier. Coolest part about doing the plumbing lines is using the weed burner to heat up the PVC to get it to bend,.. so cool!

Laid underlayment (not in photos) so the liner can be placed next weekend

I am going to be building something similar, but probably half the size in 2009. I was quoted $20k. No thanks, I will do it myself.

Feel free to post any links to good parts suppliers. I have not decided what kind of system to use yet, but won't have Koi as I will have to drain every fall for the winter.

Looks like fun though.

Did you every develop leaks in the liner? Thickness?

And what was the footing with the rebar for?

Thanks!

The liner is 45mil, I will put the underlayment back in, with additional old liner 45mil + new liner on top 45mil so it will have 90mil of rubber liner plus underlayment. Underlayment is to avoid punctures. Only problem I had was a gopher did chew some of the underlayment and liner in the upper poriton of the pond, this time its going so deep and two rubber layers I shouldn't have any problems.

The footing is for the 300gal stock tank/waterfall/Bakki Shower. 300gax x 8.5lbs per gal=2550lbs, + Bakki & Water probably will end up being 3500lbs

I get the liner from pondliner.com price is good but shipping is a killer $1000 for liner (50x50) $400 for shipping.

Stock Tanks purchased on Craigslist, and other plumbing stuff from Home Depot.

Total budget for pond with original rocks is probably 10K and my labor, but its a really big pond,.. most ponders stay 5,000-10,000 gal range.

I get my pumps off ebay,.. I see them as a supply that needs to be replaced every two years so don't like to make a big investment in them.

Here is a front view, the underlayment is being reused so looks kinda janky.

To give perspective the concerte work is at 8'
