Official Pond Rebuild thread.
Looking great, good job.
Obviously this is a purpose-built pond so the function of it is most important, but I really liked the aesthetics of the old one. It's too bad the stuff that looked pretty (semi-submerged rocks, gradual beach entrance, etc) created a danger to the fish due to predators.

This thread makes me feel REALLY lazy. I couldn't ever see myself doing something like that. Impressive. You also have an unbelievable view from your house, and that would further complicate things for me. I'd just want to sit out in a comfy chair drinking wine...
Mikey & Imagine,
I agree that asthetically the old setup was better, but loose a couple $200ea koi to preditors and or desease due to pathogens that grow in the much/gravel and you will really start to enjoy the new pond design
And remember the original photos were taken when the pond is complete and in the spring time. This one is not yet complete, once completed you won't see the stock tanks, or any of the hardware so it will look more natural

In the ponds my brother and I dug at my folks house, we didn't want to deal with concerns for predators so we actually just used feeder fish (common goldfish) in the ponds. About 1.5 dozen of em actually grew to be HUGE! We also shifted 3 goldfish from a small indoor fish tank that had been there for years and only 12 months after they were put in the big ponds they more than doubled in size. As I understand it they will grow to their environment to some extent.
Best of luck hanging on to the koi now! Poop removal system looks like it should do a good job.
