oh $hit wallet is gone!
my gf lost her wallet... has no idea where it is.. she has contacted all the credit card companies, but what should she do with her lost driver's license & social security card???? even if she contacts social sec bureau to get her card, someone has her # already??
Maybe she'll get lucky and it will be turned in. I wouldn't worry too much about the SS#, those things are a dime-a-dozen to pull off the internet. I'd say the CC's are the main concern (good to see she already canceled them).
well on the back of the social security card is says to contact the SS office immediately if its lost, but i dont think it works like a CC where they issue you another card.. but at least you could report it stolen..
I would think her best bet is to report the social security and license lost/stolen. I'm guessing not much more than that can be done - other than to be more careful next time
I also don't keep my SIN (the SS equivalent in Canada) just for that reason. I've had the number memorized for years.

File a report with the police, if you can. Call the major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, & Transunion) and tell them what has happened. Ask to have her record flagged so that creditors have to contact her before approving a request for more credit. Provide the credit bureaus with the police report, or send them a statement regarding what happened. Check to see if any accounts have been opened since the wallet was lost.
Contact Soc Sec, explain the problem, and request a new card. Check her Soc Sec statement in a few months to see if anyone is working under her number.
Tell her to leave her new SS card at home. Don't carry it around.
Good luck!
