Unfortunately, whoever has her wallet has more than just her SSN. They have her address and date of birth from her DL. That info, plus a phone number, is pretty much all someone needs to open credit online.

She has reason to be concerned.

She should be ok, Thousands of people are becoming victims of Identity theft... I see that as the worse case, and that could happen by leaving an application to something in the trash. Think Happy thoughts and try not to loss sleep over it. Cause either way its going to be a hassle lossing a wallet.

What your gf has to do is put a block or watch on her credit history information through all major credit reporting agencys (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion... etc). Then if someone tries to pull her credit or get a credit card they can't until the actual credit agency first gets a hold of your gf before they accept the credit app.

She should file a stolen/lost report with the police report. This will help prove she didn't have anything to do with any charges or things that might stem from loosing her wallet. Also it'll help at the DMV replace her drivers license for free.
