OMG! Fractured Penis
Just came home from a 24-hr shift at the hospital. It rained pretty hard last night and there were several traffic collision victims that came in. At one point, a whole family was brought in. Dad, Mom and three kids, all injured. We worked on the Mom for hours in the OR, but we couldn't save her.
I've seen a lot of bad stuff, but at 0415 this morning, I saw something that I hope I never see again! The fractured penis guy.
I've read about it, and I've had patients with priapism (boner that won't go away) in the ICU, but I had never seen a penile fracture before. Basically, his dick was snapped in half. And it had a giant hematoma from internal bleeding. It was bad- not like the letter "L", more like the letter "V". The surgeons had to fillet the whole thing open in order to fix it. I gave the guy enough drugs and gas to put an elephant to sleep, because it looked sooooo painful!
Be careful out there, guys. Don't be too cavalier with your one and only!
