I was an extra in a movie once. The catering alone was worth doing it.
My friend was an extra on a tv show and said the same thing

Wow. That is probably one of the dumbest things written by a Chinese-American.

First off, the movie is based on Amy Tan's novel, The Joy Luck Club.

In his FAQ,
"1. Have you read the JLC book? It's much better than the movie.

The JLC movie will have to stand on its own. Most people do not have the time or inclination to read the book, including me. In fact, the only people I have encountered that have actually read the book were forced to because of a class at school. Most people would rather see the movie. This may be a sad commentary on society in general but it is true."

Since the movie is based on the novel, it is not going to change around the "stereotypes". So why is he going to complain about a movie when he should complain to Amy Tan about her novel. OH right, he didn't read it

And his poor excuse was he wasn't forced to read it in school. There are millions of books that are not read in the classroom, by his logic, no one reads them too.

Second, the stereotypes are there because those type of attitudes were and sadly still is common in the Chinese culture. And for the most part of the novel, it is about the women voices being heard above all the discrimination against them. And of course, the cultural changes in mother-daughter generation in American.

Just because he is a Chinese American, sheltered in his American culture doesn't mean that the movie should be changed so everyone is compassionate, respectful, open-mindedness and loving.
