Thats horrible.

I don't even know the guy but feel bad for him.

First, I would hope that the military would be onto this and tell all military personel to alert their families of the scam.

Second, I bet you that the scammer could be easily caught, there is always a trail. But I also bet you that since it is accross state lines and police always think they have bigger fish to fry, they just let it go.

 

...if it's across state lines it would be a federal deal, no?

I bet the FBI doesn't care either.

 

Yeah its a federal deal, and they do investigate stuff like this, but I saw a presentation on the subject and a proposal in my state to get a financial crimes task force funded (I forget whether or not it was) and remember a statistic that 90% or so just goes uninvestigated due to the huge volume.

It reminds me of an exchange on Seinfeld after Jerry was robbed.

Police officer after taking statement: "Ok we'll call you if we find anything."

Jerry "Do you ever find anything?"

Officer: "Nope."

 

I understand that this guy may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but regardless that is really a cruel scam!

i do feel really bad for him. that sucks ass. i'd be furious if this happened to me. but i also wouldn't come into work and tell everyone about it.

 

I too heard of this scam before. I feel for this poor guy and I don't think its funny at all.

 

I got scammed one time. Damn homeless guy told me he needed a dollar to catch the bus, sure enough i was walking back from eating dinner and here he is coming out of the liquor store with a bottle of whisky! man... i'm never falling for that one again.

 

I got the "I just need a few dollars worth of fuel to get the xxxxx where my xxx is in the hospital".

I said, "let's go fill up your car". Only there was no car.
