Default Oregon Stays at 65MPH DAMIT!

Oregon's governor an old "emergency room doctor" just shot down the bill passed to raise speed limits to I think 75. Oregon is still the only state west of the Mississippi that has 65MPH freeways... Thats 55 on the back highways. They did this for "safety" reasons even though statistics in other states still show accidents down 5% since they raised the limits...

The last speeding ticket I got (10 yrs ago ::knocks on wood: was in Oregon for going 82 in a 55. That ticket cost me $380. I've had other friends get tickets for quite a bit less over the speed limit than what I was and they were still damn expensive. I think the real reason they don't want to raise the speed limits is because they like the revenue too much.

I have lived in Washigton and worked in Oregon for 10 years. have lived in Washigton for 20+ years. I have never gotten a ticker in Washigton. I have 3 in Oregon which by the way is one of the most expensive tickets in the country. I hate Oregon.

California also has 65 mph freeways. Some of the highways are higher though.

Are you saying your highways are 65 and the freeways are 55 in your area??

You know I even voted for him. I can't believe that he vetoed the bill again. Nobody goes 65, it is a real joke.

i was listening to a state trooper in oregon talking about the speeding "problem" on the freeways. he said straight up..if you are go around 80 and not weaving around through traffic...on the freeway (65mph) no ticket. It was on some am talk show. We all drive 80, the cops knw, don't do $hit about it...only kitzhaber nows why he can't change the limit....

Most of I 5 through the central valley is limited at 70 mph, and even part of 280 is at 70 on the peninsula.

Gotta love the intermountain west though- NV, UT, WY all have 75 mph postings in places.
