OT Threads that link externally...
Whose with me? In general, threads created for the sole purpose of showing everyone a weird or funny YouTube clip, random CNN Offbeat news article, or stupid BSFW photo fail to deliver 9 times out of 10. First off, no new information is being created, rather it is being propogated. Second, chances are that we have either a) seen the link or b) will see the link any day now in a forward sent by a spamming co-worker or relative who is always a day late and a few nuts short. IMO, threads with original substance do much better and spark much livlier quips and quarrels in OT.

I don't care for links simply because most of the time I'm on this site I'm at work, and by opening a link I'm not sure what to expect i.e. open up a link to an article or video and see some big-breasted chick on the side telling me she's single and wants to chat.
ever consider how many links to youtube and other sites like it are just traffic generators? All those sites have numerous paid ads that clutter up the page, generating income for the hosting site every time a link to a lame-ass clip of some dumbshit doing stupid crap gets clicked.
How many of you would get cold-cocked if you insisted your friends come over and watch your tape of "America's Funniest Home Videos" every week because they had "the funniest thing I've evAr seen!!111!" I don't ever remember laying awake at night because I had yet to see some idiot try to jump off a roof into a pool and fall a bit short. Now I've seen it, and don't really feel I learned anything I didn't already know
I hate to say it, but there's something to be said for the filtering provided by mainstream media. I'm not saying it's chock full fo good stuff, but at least some of the more obviously useless stuff doesn't make it to primetime.
