Ok true story.

First, a little background information. My father is an avid fish tank person. We've had fish for as long as I can remember. He likes predator fish. Oscars, Arowannas (sp?), etc. But Arowannas are his favorite.

Now, back in High School, one night we broke out the Ouija board at my house. Let's just say women and alcohol played a factor. Why do women like playing with the Ouija board anyway? But back to the story again. So supposedly we conjure up this ghost. We ask it a bunch of questions and get a bunch of nonsense answers. Somebody then decided to ask it if it was hungry. The ghost answers yes. We then proceeded to ask what it wanted to eat. The answer, you can figure this out, "FISH". Now here is the freaky part remember the Arowanna's? Well at that time my father had 2 huge tanks (at least 100 gallons), with one in each tank and a third feeder tank. Within seconds we turn around and both fish turned belly-up. That's right folks my dad's favorite pets, that he raised since they were about 2 inches big to about 18 inches died, right there on the spot. Coincidence? Who the hell knows, let's just say we never broke out the Ouija board again.

I spent a lot of time in Taiwan when I was growing up, some of the stuff you hear about and get invited to are really scary. I never took part in any of the really scary stuff as I'm chickenshit and of the firm opinion that what shit you don't know you shouldn't mess around with... just in case.

Anyway, what that guy was saying about only taking your hands off the board after the spirit leaves is totally true. You invite them, you've got to take care of them. Can take a long time before they've had their fill and there's shit you can do about it. I never took part but used to get invited and then just sit around watching. We never used an ouija board but we used a rice bowl turned upside down with a chip/marker on the rim to act as a pointer to point at Chinese characters painted on a tablecloth. I never did know whether it was really a spirit moving the bowl around or not, but my friends say they weren't doing anything.

Getting a bit off topic, another common one is sitting in front of a mirror at 11pm peeling an apple - story goes that if you invite the spirits and then proceed to peel the apple in one long peel, you get a wish granted. If, however, you break that peel then you belong to them, not in this life but in the afterlife. I don't know anyone who tried this but you hear stories of people who've tried this, failed the task and have subsequently gone mad as they claim to be able to see someone following them all the time.

Other stories abound about seeing joggers/walkers on the roadside as you drive past them only for them to disappear in the rear view mirror. I've had this happen to me before at night. Coming back from a day out with friends this figure loomed out of the darkness, having totally not been picked up by the car's headlights. I was in the front passenger seat and the driver, my friend, and I both saw him at the same time. My friend swerved out of the way and I got everyone in the car to turn around and look for this asshole as we weren't sure whether he/she was alright. We stopped and waited for the guy to appear and he never did. Straight road, literally miles from nowhere.

I don't really know what her wish was, but after she peeled the apple she said she saw something in the mirror. What she saw I'm not sure because she never told.

Most of my relatives are strong believers in Chinese supernatural things. They actually had Buddhist monks perform exorcisms when a demon was haunting my aunt. The demon would follow her everywhere and wake her up in the middle of the night. Usually when she opened her curtains she would see it staring back and then it would enter the house and cause a big commotion. Scary stuff, not something you should tell your children . But I turned out alright

Going back on topic: In Chinese stories, when someone lifts the pointer (a rice bowl) while it is spelling something, you will find blood inside the bowl.

Oh and thank you for the warm welcome
